Chhath Puja is a sacred and ancient Vedic festival dedicated to Lord Surya (Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya. The four-day ritual is performed with devotion, discipline, cleanliness, and traditional customs to seek blessings for good health, prosperity, happiness, and the well-being of family and children. The ritual includes Nahay-Khay, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya, and Usha Arghya. Devotees observe fasting and purity throughout the festival and offer Arghya (water offering) to the setting and rising Sun. The complete puja service is conducted according to traditional rituals under the guidance of an experienced Pandit Ji, with the required puja arrangements and samagri.

The Ritual Process (Vidhi)

Step 1

1. Nahay-Khay

Step 2

The Chhath Puja begins with purification, cleanliness, and preparation. The Vrati takes a ritual bath and prepares a simple, pure meal.

2. Kharna

Step 4

The Vrati observes a day-long fast and performs Kharna in the evening. Jaggery kheer and roti are traditionally prepared and offered as Prasad.

3. Sandhya Arghya

Step 6

In the evening, devotees visit a river, pond, or other prepared Ghat and offer Arghya to the setting Sun along with traditional offerings.

4. Usha Arghya

Step 8

Before sunrise, devotees gather at the Ghat and offer Arghya to the rising Sun. After completing the morning rituals, the Vrati concludes the fast and distributes Prasad.

Pre-Ritual Preparation
